The terms “earthing” and “grounding” are interchangeable, and refer to the act of walking barefoot on the earth, this in turn allows for the transfer of free electrons from the earth into our body, through the soles of our feet.
For generations our ancestors have slept on the ground and walked barefoot, touching the earth. They didn’t even realize how beneficial it was to their body, but recently the knowledge and significance of this connection has been explored by scientific experts. From their research we are learning that the Earth’s electrical energy maintains the order of our own bodily frequencies, much the same as a conductor controls and orchestra.
We don’t learn about it in school, and are totally unaware of our own bioelectrical nature.
We are disconnected and separated from the Earth, our energy is not “connected” and when we are disconnected our body is vulnerable and prone to dysfunction, including accelerated aging and inflammation related disease.
The body, just like the Earth is mostly water and minerals and both are excellent conductors of electrons. The Earths free electrons are easily transferred up, into, and throughout your body as long as there is direct skin contact with the ground.
Qi (chee) is a central principal in Chinese knowledge and is regarded as the energy or natural force that fills the universe. The Earth Qi is absorbed when we walk barefoot, explaining why it is so relaxing to walk without shoes, and why exercises geared toward strengthening the body and relaxing the mind, such as yoga and tai chi are practiced without footwear. The central focus in Chinese practices involves “growing a root” or opening up communication between the bottom of the feet and the Earth.
What is Earthing?
Earthing involves coupling your body to the Earths eternal and gentle surface energies.
By walking barefoot outside and/or sitting, walking or sleeping inside while connected to a device that delivers the natural healing energy of the Earth to your body. Results from studies on thousands of people over a ten year period have been documented and the are extraordinary.
When we walk barefooted, the front part of the sole comes in contact with the Earth, and in traditional Chinese medicine this acupuncture point is K1 or the kidney point. This point is a major entryway for absorption of Earth. This continues on to more important organs and parts of the body, including the liver, diaphragm, heart, lungs, and brain, as well as a central meridian point in the back.
A 2005 study by electrical engineer Roger Applewhite confirmed:
“Electrons move from the Earth to the body and vice versa when the body is grounded. This effect is sufficient to maintain the body at the same negative-charge electrical potential as the Earth. We hypothesize that this flow of free electrons into the body is the mechanism by which inflammation is brought down.”
Grounding powerfully reduces electromagnetic fields (EMFs) on the body.
Toxic exposures associated with modern life creates free radical stress on the body and depletes your body of electrons. Antioxidants donate electrons back into your body and this in turn helps to ward off free radical damage on your tissues. Instead of swallowing antioxidants you can get these electrons by going barefoot outside.
When standing barefoot on bare earth or sand electrons from the earth flow into your body, thereby giving you a virtual “transfusion” of healing. This only occurs until you equalize with the earth, so no worry of getting too much, making it as safe and natural as it gets.
This process has shown in research to take about 80 minutes for the free electrons from the earth to reach your blood stream and transform your blood. This can be so profound that you need to work with your health care provider if you are taking blood thinners, making sure you don’t overdo your medications.
Earthing can make you feel better, and often very rapidly. The degree of improvement varies from person to person. In studies it was shown that when Earthing was stopped, symptoms tended to slowly return.
So what does Earthing do?
- Defuses the cause of inflammation, and improves or eliminates the symptoms of many inflammation-related disorders.
- Reduces or eliminates chronic pain
- Improves sleep in most cases.
- Increases energy
- Lowers stress and promotes calmness in the body by cooling down the nervous system and stress hormones.
- Normalizes the body’s biological rhythms.
- Thins blood and improves blood pressure and flow.
- Relieves muscle tension and headaches
- Lessens hormonal and menstrual symptoms
- Dramatically speeds healing and helps prevent bedsores
- Reduces or eliminates jet lag
- Protects the body against health-disturbing environmental electromagnetic fields (EMFs)
- Accelerates recovery from intense athletic activity
The Shoe Problem
The sole of the foot is covered with some 1,300 nerve endings per square inch. There are more nerve endings in the feet than found on any other part of the body. The paws of all animals are equally rich in nerve endings, this keeps them and us “in touch” with the Earth. We were designed to extract energy from the Earth, much like a plant root extracts moisture from the ground. These findings were based on a study done by the late Dr. William Rossi, a Massachusetts podiatrist, who strongly believed that footwear was an integral part of foot care and overall health.
The bottoms of our footwear are virtually deadened, we are blocked from making contact with the Earth.
Besides Barefooting
You can ground yourself by sitting on the ground, or get a chair and relax with your bare feet placed directly on the Earth.
To make the experience more effective, dampen the soil or grass, this will give you added conductivity. Do this for 30 or 40 minutes two or three times a day, the more compromised your health the more often and longer it is recommended to do this. There have been measured improvements in that thirty to forty minutes in past research and many more will come to light with continued research.
Concrete is a conductive substance if it is moistened. If the concrete is painted or sealed there may be no conductivity. Asphalt is not conductive neither is carpeted concrete as well as wood or vinyl surfaces.
The fantastic thing about Earthing is it is simple and fundamental, it is simple and free of cost for the most part. There are grounding mats and sheets as well as throws.
Your animals that are inside only may benefit from Earthing as well, by putting a grounded throw where they lay or sleep they are getting grounded.
We are all electrical creatures, even our pets may be electron deficient.
